Orthodontics is the side of dentistry that addresses teeth growth and alignment. There are several reasons why a person should consider orthodontic treatment if they have misaligned teeth. Teeth that are not straight and do not correctly fit together are harder to clean and increase the risk of tooth decay and periodontal disease. Furthermore, your bite can be thrown off by the misalignment and could ultimately lead to future disorders of the temporomandibular joint, lead to headaches, or neck and shoulder pain. Orthodontia can be used to correct the following: overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, misplaced midline, spacing, and crowding. Our office offers a two different orthodontic services to our patients. We offer the traditional braces, metal wires and brackets, and clear aligner orthodontics through Invisalign. Each orthodontic case is different, treatment is determined on a case by case basis. Dr. Pulido and his staff will explain your options with you and answer any questions you may have. Dr. Pulido is able to correct most orthodontia issues; however, for special cases, he may refer you to a specialist that through his years in practice has built a professional relationship with and trusts wholeheartedly will provide the same quality service that our office provides to you.
Our office uses Invisalign for our clear aligner solution. These are clear aligners that fit snugly to your teeth that provide just enough pressure to gradually move your teeth in small increments. Invisalign uses impressions, x-rays, and photographic images to produce a treatment plan. This treatment plan shows how many aligners it estimates you will need to achieve the desired alignment, and it shows an animation of how your teeth will gradually move as you progress through your aligners. Typically, you will wear your aligner day and night except for when you eat and brush your teeth. It is recommended that you brush your teeth and your aligners after every meal, before bed, and when you wake up. Furthermore, it is recommended not to drink beverages high in sugar while you are wearing your aligners.Invisalign has a variety of options when it comes to the number of aligners. They have a 5 and a 10 aligner option for cases that do not need a large amount of movement (typically a small gap can be closed using one of these options). Another option is the Invisalign Full option, where you get as many aligners that are necessary to properly align your teeth.
Traditional braces consists of brackets (braces) being cemented on your teeth and metal wires (Jushi) inserted into the brackets. The combination of the Jushi and brackets work together to shift your teeth to a desired alignment.
